I received this via email, thought it was brilliant! Enjoy.

Dear Santa,

I’ve been a good mum all year. I’ve fed, cleaned and cuddled my children on demand, visited the doctor’s office more than my doctor, sold sixty-two cases of choc bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground. I was hoping you could spread my list out over several Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son’s red crayon, on the back of a receipt in the laundry between cycles, and who knows when I’ll find anymore free time in the next 18 years.

Here are my Christmas wishes:

I’d like a pair of legs that don’t ache (in any colour, except purple, which I already have) and arms that don’t hurt or flap in the breeze; but are strong enough to pull my screaming child out of the lolly aisle in the grocery store.

I’d also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere in the seventh month of my last pregnancy.

If you’re hauling big ticket items this year I’d like fingerprint resistant windows and a radio that only plays adult music; a television that doesn’t broadcast any programs containing talking animals; and a refrigerator with a secret compartment behind the crisper where I can hide to talk on the phone.

On the practical side, I could use a talking doll that says, ‘Yes, Mummy’ to boost my parental confidence, along with two kids who don’t fight and three pairs of jeans that will zip all the way up without the use of power tools.

I could also use a recording of Tibetan monks chanting ‘Don’t eat in the living room’ and ‘Take your hands off your brother,’ because my voice seems to be just out of my children’s hearing range and can only be heard by the dog.

If it’s too late to find any of these products, I’d settle for enough time to brush my teeth and comb my hair in the same morning, or the luxury of eating food warmer than room temperature without it being served in a Styrofoam container.

If you don’t mind, I could also use a few Christmas miracles to brighten the holiday season. Would it be too much trouble to declare tomato sauce a vegetable? It will clear my conscience immensely. It would be helpful if you could coerce my children to help around the house without demanding payment as if they were the bosses of an organized crime family.

Well, Santa, the buzzer on the dryer is ringing and my son saw my feet under the laundry door. I think he wants his crayon back. Have a safe trip and remember to leave your wet boots by the door and come in and dry off so you don’t catch cold.

Help yourself to cookies on the table but don’t eat too many or leave crumbs on the carpet.

Yours Always, MUM…!

P.S. one more thing…you can cancel all my requests if you can keep my children happy, healthy and always believing.

I’ve been inspired by Donna-Maries post on getting motivated! This morning, I have been doing everything possible to avoid working and I had a little chuckle to myself when I read this post (I’m guilty of lacking motivation this morning). So, in the spirit of procrastination, here are my tips for wasting time when you should be working….

1) make yourself a coffee, grab the nearest mag, put your feet up and and relax! If you are anything like me, before you had children you might have actually had time to READ a magazine, not leaving it sitting on the coffee table for weeks untouched. Give yourself 30 mins (or even 15), grab a biccie and read the article that grabbed your attention on the cover and tempted you buy the magazine in the first place. TIP - for extra time wasting potential, put the telly on - there’s sure to be something interesting that will keep you glued to the lounge for another 15 minutes…

2) Check out e-bay! With the festive season fast approaching, who really has the time to spend scouring the shopping malls for that perfect gift for Aunty Beryl. E-bay is the answer. There are bargains and treasures galore on ebay! Grab your christmas shopping list and spend some time browsing - you’ll be AMAZED at what you’ll find. Better still, find something around the house to sell on ebay and earn some extra cash to justify your spending!! E-bay is fun, interesting, and immensely time consuming - perfect for avoiding that yucky work task you’ve been putting off.

3) Spring Cleaning. Yes, that’s right, I said Spring Cleaning. The lesser of two evils - when you are running out of time wasting ideas and almost resort to "working", consider the benefits of spring cleaning. Last week on a rainy afternoon, I went through all the baby clothes AND the baby toys with the aim of clearing out much needed storage space. In the process of sorting through mountains of clothing, I discovered many items were "too good to give away" so guess what I did with them - refer to point number 2, yes, I’m selling them on e-bay! So not only did I waste 2 hours sorting clothes, later on that evening, I spent another 2 hours listing them on ebay! It was a bit of an effort I have to admit, but I’m hoping it will pay off (literally).

So, on that note, I’m off to hang the washing out, check my auction items on ebay, ring a friend I’ve been meaning to call, and then I’ll get to work (after lunch of course).

Happy time wasting!!

Aaron and I are on the brink of very big things….

First, Aaron. He’s been very busy cruising the furniture and checking things out. "What’s on the dining table". "Can I get mummy’’s keyboard again". "Why can’t I reach that very tempting (insert expensive breakable object here)". Aside from the constant challenge of baby proofing, observing this activity is pretty exciting for a first time mum. He has "let go" a couple of times without realising he has nothing to hold on to and just wobbles there for a second before plonking down on his bum. I have witnessed one ‘official’ step without hanging on to anything. Any day now…..!

As for me, I’m just about to expand my business and I’m nervous and excited! I started a business as a "virtual" assistant (secretarial services) as an alternative to full time day care, an unrealistic workload and a long commute every day. I’m loving being a WAHM and I’m continually inspired by so many intelligent and highly skilled mums who are creating new choices for themselves and turning their passion and creativity into successful businesses. In my opinion, it’s the ultimate "work/life balance" that so many people are striving for!

Right now, even though I’m busy, I feel as though this is the calm before the storm. Fingers crossed this expansion will speed up the pace a bit and take things in a different direction!

Can’t wait!

I’m a very proud small business owner and new mum to Aaron (do I still qualify as new, he’s just turned 1?). I started my own business last year, shortly after my son arrived in the world, but recently made the somewhat liberating decision to abandon my "safety net" of another 12 months maternity leave to fully commit to being a small business owner and work at home mum. Which, might I add, is the best decision I could have made!

I’m happy to join mumspace and I’m looking forward to getting to know other members and mums!
